Host a Cabin Building Workshop
And keep the completed frame.
Heartwood is looking for exciting new places to bring people together and share our passion for traditional timber framing. Hosting our course is a unique opportunity to bring people together to learn and celebrate traditional craftsmanship — and by the end of the workshops, the host will have a completed traditional timber frame project of their choosing, crafted entirely by students using only traditional hand tools.
Please note: The frame will be constructed by participants of varying experience levels, so while the finished timber frame will be structurally sound, hosts should expect some natural variations and imperfections that come from handmade work.
Requirements for Hosts:
Venue: A suitable venue with a flat working area is essential. Ideally, there should be a covered workspace to protect participants and materials from the elements. An event marquee can be hired if covered workspace is not available. Power is not necessary as the work is handtools only.
Facilities: Toilets must be available. Accommodation options should be provided on-site, or nearby camping or lodging should be accessible for attendees.
Logistics: The host will need to receive timber deliveries prior to the start of the workshop.
Project Responsibility: The host will cover all design, engineering, and timber costs required to complete their timber frame project.
Permissions: Any necessary local or council approvals are the responsibility of the property owner.
Cost: The host will cover design, material and engineering costs associated with the timber frame.
Travel Considerations:
We are happy to travel to host workshops at your venue. For longer distances, a travel fee may be required to cover expenses.
